Oaktown Throwdown BBQ competition returns for 2016!

2016 BBQ Competition: 

This year, the BBQ competition and blues stage will both be moved to 12th Street to make it easier to grab BBQ samples and a cold beer while listening to the music close-up.

Logo for the Oaktown Throwdown BBQ Competitionully sanctioned Kansas City Barbecue Society BBQ competition. The Throwdown is also a California BBQ Association “Team of the Year” competition.
 
They will compete for cash prizes and the honor of being awarded “Grand Champion.” Many of these professionals are multi-award winning chefs from other regional barbeque competitions. They hail from Oakland, San Francisco, San Jose, Sacramento, St. Helena, Pleasanton and beyond.  
 
Created by barbecue aficionado and Bike East Bay staffer Dave Campbell, the Oaktown Throwdown BBQ Competition will include “You-Be-the-Judge” People’s Choice Awards, a whole hog roast and sales of barbeque-related merchandise. And the best part… hot-off-the-grill samples from seasoned professionals. To find out which pit masters are sampling, look for a “BBQ Sample” flag.

2016 Food Vendors:

Art + Soul's food vendors feature a spectacular selection of cuisines from around the world. Let your taste buds travel the world by choosing from any of the high quality food vendors in the festival.

A sampling of the fun eats includes:

  • Jambalaya, Gumbo and Crawfish Etoufee
  • Catfish, Snapper, Oysters, Crab Cakes , Shrimp and Hush Puppies with remoulade sauce
  • Ethiopian cuisine
  • Fried Chicken
  • Chicken Tikka Masala and Veggie Pakoras
  • Pork, Chicken or Veggie Lumpia
  • Hawaiian BBQ and Malasadas
  • Tri Tip and Sausage Sandwiches
  • Smoked Turkey Legs
  • Jerk Chicken
  • Funnel Cakes
  • Jazzy Juice Drinks

Beer, wine and other beverages concessions will also be offered.

All food vendors at Art & Soul will be using compostable cups, plates and utensils. Be sure to help us Go Green by disposing of items properly.
